Asterophilia carlae ( Hanley, 1989 )

Sea star scale worm, Carla's scale worm

Maximum length: 3 cm

Maximum depth: No depth information found. This one was at 14 m

This scale worm is red, orange - to reddish - brown.

It has numerous, elongated tubercles that are club-shaped at the end.

It is said to live mainly on starfish, but I found this one on a nudibranch.

There is a possibility of confusion with Asterophilia culcitae,

both can only be precisely identified by experts under a microscope.

Lepidonotus sp

Scale worm

Maximum length: 3.5 cm

Depth: 2 - 20 m

They live parasitically on starfish and sea cucumbers.

It is a rather small animal,

which therefore does not pose a threat to a large host on its own.
